Most of my routes posted on my website are created from memory of walking individual paths over many years, so in theory I already have a good idea if a circular or linear walk produced from connecting them will work. I can then just head out on a sunny day and photograph the whole route. However, there are some paths that I’ve still not investigated, and to be able to include these on some circular walks I need to head out and test them first. For these recces I tend to go out on the murky days because the best weather days in the Lake District for photography are limited. So basically, I end up walking some routes that are included on the website twice. One to see how it feels, and one to photograph it. This route over Lingmoor Fell is a great example; the short ascent from Blea Tarn and then back onto the fell to include the quarries is a new path for me. Overall the walk is a little unorthodox, but it really works and takes in all the features of the fell. I will hopefully walk it again soon to photograph it.
It was a great pleasure to have George Kitching of Lakeland Walking Tales joining us.
