This was an absolutely spectacular winter camp on Crinkle Crags. I firstly climbed Pike o’ Blisco and then headed over to the Crinkles. Between the summits the snow was very deep in places and it was very tough going, but once I got to the first Crinkle it all seemed worth the effort. My usual pitch between the first and second Crinkle, it was three foot deep of soft snow, so I had to use rocks to anker the pegs. These would freeze over so I wasn’t worried about anything moving through the night. It took me one and a half hours to pitch everything and sort my gear out, but it was great to finally get out of those freezing temperatures. Once settled I treated myself to a lovely pork pie followed by a few hours kip (I think I deserved it!). I had dinner around 8pm, and enjoyed the rest of the evening all snug in my abode. The next morning I woke to a wonderful sunrise from the first Crinkle, before packing up and then heading over the knobbly ridge. It was a delightful return back to Great Langdale, with spectacular winter scenery. This certainly was one of my best experiences on the Lakeland fells.
