A Match Made in the Heavens – A demo pitch of a new Golite Shrangri-La 3 and a new Durston X Mid 2.

I was very fortunate to have acquired a Golite SL3 last week, that had never been slept in, and came with a new full inner, original pole, pegs and bags, and two new Oookworks inners (single and two person). At the same time I was in the process of going through a few test pitches of my new X Mid 2. Both will provide so much versatility for the family here in the Lake District. I have been using a ‘bamboo’ version (yellow) of the SL3 for over seven years now, but I never imagined a new one coming up for sale. This was a rare moment that I couldn’t resist.

I had remembered from a few years back coming across a nice grass ledge on Yew Crag, opposite Fleetwith Pike and Honister Slate Mine, and thinking to myself, how wonderful it would be to camp there, and waking up in the morning looking down the valley towards Buttermere. Would I fit two tents on the shelf though?

There are wild camping guidelines here in the Lake District, and one is to pitch late and leave early. With that in mind, I only pitched these two outer skins in a remote spot for only 15 minutes early in the morning, while I took some photos from different angles and to see if both fit safely on the ledge. After briskly packing up, it was wonderful to sit admiring the views while having some breakfast, and then to wonder off to explore the slate quarries.
How well do these look together?
