Some of my favourite photos from my wild camp on Crinkle Crags, which was the first night out for the Durston X Mid 2. The weather forecast for the evening was easterly winds and clearing, but on arrival to the first top from the north, Gunson Knot, I found myself in thick clag and the wind had dropped to nothing. It was a very moody and creepy atmosphere, as I negotiated the rocky knolls and traverses. Thankfully I know these five summits very well, and I knew where to take the short cuts and where to find water. I found a lovely spot on the ascent of the last Crinkle, previously known as “Flesk”, and pitched above the col and straight opposite the ‘Bad Step’. It was a quick pitch and it wasn’t long until cooking commenced. There was a brief moment of sun peeking through above the Scafells that lit up my location, so I quickly jumped out of my abode to take a photo of the tent and the summit of Flesk. What followed in the morning was simply spectacular, but I’ll let the photos show my reward for all the effort.

After photographing the sunrise and eating my breakfast, I quickly packed my gear and managed to descend back to my car for 9am, which was left overnight at Stickle Ghyll. I drove home and pegged the tent out by 10:30am. Not bad hey?
