We finally got the chance to do a test pitch of the X-Mid 2 in Fitz Park, Keswick. I’m really happy with this new tent, it’s so light and very easy to pitch, and according to the company Durston, and many reviews online, it’s bombproof and able to withstand strong gales; which of course is important for us as we tend to mainly summit camp here in Lake District. There’s also plenty of room, with the possibility of two adults and a dog, and all the gear plus two rucksacks in the vestibules. All this space and it’s half the weight of our Golite Shrangri-la 3! We are now confident enough to introduce it to one of our favourite Lakeland summits.

We were able to go over some final checks. One was to cut two foil mats so they fit nicely within the unusual angles of the inner part of the tent; this foil, which we’ve been using for many years now, can be bought from B&Q and is extremely lightweight and provides so much insulation under your sleeping mats.

The second photo shows the unusual angle of this pitch, which is a unique design in the tent world. A huge thanks and congratulations to Dan Durston for a super-fast delivery and for creating such a wonderful tent.
