An amazing thing has happened — something I thought I would never see again. There it was: a brand new Golite Shangri-La 3 for sale, with extras included in the price. I couldn’t believe it. This once-popular, bombproof tent has not been available for many years. However, this one appeared on a lightweight backpacking forum, so I quickly got in touch with the seller.

The items for sale included a new Golite Shangri-La 3 fly in bamboo, complete with original pegs, pole, and stuff sacks; an unused original Shangri-La 3 full inner; an unused one-man inner by Oookworks, made by Sean; and an unused two-man inner by Oookworks, also made by Sean.

“But you already have a Golite, Richard?” Yes, but that will soon have a new home. Now that we have purchased a Durston X-Mid 2, which is a lighter two-person tent, the new Golite will become our family tent, with the added option of using it with the single inner, which will accommodate myself and Tika.
