All settled in the tent on Green Gable, and what a wonderful walk it was from Honister Hause, visiting Brandreth before reaching our pitch location just below the summit of Green Gable on the western side. People passing me on their way down reassured me that the tops were above the inversion — and how right they were. We had some amazing Brocken Spectres and fog bows as we appeared above the carpet of cloud.

Today was very special, as it was the first time pitching our new tent — the Hilleberg Allak 2 in Sand. It was only delivered yesterday, so the timing for these conditions was perfect. I now have a tent for every occasion, having spent over a year researching and waiting for the right one to come along that was suitable for myself and the dog, in deep winter conditions. Personally, the new so-called “Hilleberg killers” just haven’t got what it takes, so in the end I went back to the brand that is simply above all the rest.

Even though I was carrying Tika’s sleeping bag and dog food, I was surprised to see my pack under 12.5 kg. I am, however, carrying my summer sleep system, but with my full winter kit I hope to keep it under 14 kg. In recent months we’ve decided to adapt to more comfort rather than worrying about weight in our packs.

Anyhow, it’s goodnight from Tika and myself.
