A slightly unorthodox way to reach Seathwaite Fell for a mountain camp, but yesterday I fancied walking up from Wasdale.
My intention was to locate a suitable pitch on Sprinkling Crags, as a recce for my Lakeland Way trip in April/May. I didn’t want to pitch low down near Sprinkling Tarn because it can get busy at times, so I walked along the rock tors located on the Great Gable side of Seathwaite Fell.
Sadly, I had no luck at all and ended up pitching on the other side of the main summit of Seathwaite Fell, which was too far away from the main path for my Lakeland Way trip. However, the camp beside an isolated tarn was still a wonderful experience. The sausage casserole certainly made all the effort worth it.
I was very pleased to keep my pack under 14kg again, even though it included my winter setup and Tika’s gear and food. On recent camps, I’ve relied less on ultralight gear, and I’m starting to move towards more comfort, especially with my sleeping setup.
I was clagged in this morning so I didn’t bother with any photos. However, it was lovely when I reached the valley floor.
