I visited the valley of Glenridding this morning to take some photos for part of Day 6 – Dockray to Patterdale of the Lakeland Way. We had walked the whole route only two weeks ago during a nice cold snap with clear skies, but sadly towards the end as we dropped into the valley we ran out of light; the might of Birkhouse Moor was the culprit! I was hoping today to take the final photos between Greenside and Patterdale, but it soon became clear that the valley at this time of the year will stay in shade for most of the day. It was very disappointing because on our previous visit, between Dockray and Greenside, we had taken some cracking autumn photos. So the decision has been made to take the photos for Day 6 towards the end of spring next year, when the leaves have just sprung into action and the sun is higher. Things don’t always go to plan, and it seems like a good mountain day wasted, but it was nice to be out on a lovely day like this.
