Today was a fungi-hunting day in Johnny Wood, in our favourite valley of Borrowdale. We began with a visit to the yew tree where Frankie’s ashes were scattered — during which Emily asked, “What are ashes?” So we had a lengthy chat about what happens when we die, and so on. Bless her — what a lot to take on at such a young age.
We then headed into the heart of Johnny Wood, where we came across so many species of fungi, including some fascinating polypores (bracket or shelf fungi).
From there, we had coffee and muffins at the youth hostel and finished our day by meeting up with Tim Jaines — the Borrowdale Womble — at Glaramara Hotel.
A fun day out with the cameras, made even better by meeting such lovely people.
