I had climbed Base Brown via its East Ridge way back in 2017, but I didn’t have the tech to record the scramble then so others could download the file from the website. In addition, I wanted to show Jaclyn the scramble and see if there were any alternative ways up and over the rock turrets on the ridge.
We did find a new route over the second turret, but because I knew the rest of the ridge would be straightforward, we decided to descend back to the valley and save the full climb for a better weather day — it had forecast for the clouds to disperse by midday, but it just wasn’t happening today so we headed off to the Glaramara Hotel for coffee and shortbread.
