I woke up to a lovely sunrise on the summit of Ill Crag. The night had been still throughout, with just a little ground frost this morning. This made visiting the summit cairns quite tricky while negotiating the boulders.

After some breakfast and packing my gear, I was soon on my way, with Broad Crag only a short distance away, and then the steep climb from the col to Scafell Pike being the next objective.

I must give a huge shout-out to my beautiful wife, who went that extra mile and made it possible for me to go on a mountain camp this weekend. I normally only camp on midweek nights, but I wanted to make the most of this cold snap, and with Jaclyn’s help with my gear, work and logistics, I was able to go.

If that wasn’t enough, she even brought Emily up to Lingmell Col to meet me as I descended from Scafell Pike, which was a lovely surprise. We then climbed to the summit of Lingmell before dropping back down to Wasdale Head.

I’m a very lucky man to have such a lovely family who enjoy mountain walks just as much as I do.
