Jaclyn promised me some serious tongue action for my birthday today, so she kindly drove me to the valley of Troutbeck to climb Troutbeck Tongue!

The day started with a stop in Keswick for a Wetherspoons breakfast, followed by a drive to the wonderful valley of Troutbeck — we parked near the church, walked the old track on the eastern side of the valley, and then ascended Troutbeck Tongue around the back of the fell.

After a rest on the summit, we descended off the nose of the fell and retraced our steps along the same track. We had cold drinks at the Mortal Man in the village, and then headed back to Keswick for chips and curry — like you do.

It was a lovely way to spend my birthday, with many delights to satisfy an ageing blob like myself. On a more serious note, we carried out an important recce for the Lakeland Way, which will be a big improvement on this section.
