It had been seven years since we first researched and found the Wolfman Plaque on Eagle Crag, and now that our daughter, Emily, is more capable of tackling more adventurous climbs — and with a good weather window over a weekend — we decided to head up there again and look for the elusive carving.

Emily is now eight years old, and by including Sergeant Crag in the walk today, she’s reached 35 on her list of Wainwrights. The terraces on Eagle Crag were very muddy — probably the worst conditions I’ve ever seen them in, but not surprising considering the terrible weather Lakeland has had so far this year. Emily loved the scrambles though and was in her element.

We eventually found the plaque again, and Emily was intrigued by the story of the Wolfman of Eagle Crag — I just hope it doesn’t lead to nightmares later! We then finished our day with drinks at the Langstrath Inn, Stonethwaite.
